Sawbridgeworth Cricket Club 1st XI v North Mymms on Sat 22 May 2010 at 11:30
Sawbridgeworth Cricket Club Won 7 wickets

Match report Sawbridgeworth got their league campaign up and running at the third time of asking as they thrashed North Mymms by seven wickets to record their first win of the season.

Skipper Joe Holland was disappointed to lose the toss but was rewarded with an early wicket when Howard trapped Rhys Wynne in front in the fourth over.

Ed Clements and Chris Chellew put on 48 for the second wicket but this proved to be Mymms' only partnership of substance as their middle-order was guilty of some poor shot selection.

After Clements was lbw to Wilson's first ball of the day, Mymms continued to rattle along at four an over but continued to lose wickets along the way.

Carter fell to a juggling catch at mid-off by Syed and an inexplicable shot by Saxby saw him comfortably caught on the long-on boundary by Howard.

Bamford edged behind to Ashman off Morgan before Bagshaw perished in the final over before lunch, being snapped up by Purnell to give Cunningham his third wicket.

With Mymms 118-6 off 29.2 overs at lunch, this represented Sawbo's best session of the season so far but at the other end, Chellew was batting magnificently and went into the break one short of his 50.

He dominated the remainder of the visitors' innings, hitting 13 fours in his 116 ball stay before being last man out off the bowling of Cunningham, who claimed his 19th career five-wicket haul for Sawbo in 86 league appearances.

With the exception of their overseas player, Mymms' batsmen looked to be in a hurry but Sawbo caught all their catches as the visitors folded with 14.3 of their 60 over allocation unused. The fact they scored 100 of their 156 runs in boundaries told its own story.

The home side had a minimum of 66 overs to reach their target and Chellew followed up his appearance with the bat with a hostile opening spell. He removed Rudkin and Sanders cheaply to leave Sawbo on 29-2 before captain Holland strode to the wicket and despatched his first ball for four.

He dominated a third wicket stand of 87 with Wilson, who provided a superb anchor role with 35 (79 balls) before giving Carter a return catch.

Holland had already brought up his fifty with successive boundaries off Chellew but it was Fernando who finished the game off with a flurry after tea. The Sri Lankan all-rounder took 14 off Chellew's final over as he finished 30 not out from 34 balls as Sawbridgeworth won with a massive 28.4 overs remaining.
