Sawbridgeworth Cricket Club Won 7 wickets

Match report Sawbridgeworth moved up to sixth place in the HCPL Division 2 East table after they recorded their first ever league "double" over North Mymms.

After recording a convincing seven wicket win in the home fixture in May, Joe Holland's side ran out winners by an identical margin after recording another excellent team performance.

Another incorrect call at the toss by Holland was the only thing that went wrong for the visitors, who got the breakthrough after 6.4 overs when Wynne played on to Fernando with the score on 30.

This brought the prolific Aussie left-hander Chris Chellew, who got off the mark second ball, which brought him down to face Donovan Miller, who replaced Howard at the Church End.

The left-arm seamer could not have dreamed of a better start. His first delivery was clipped down the leg-side and Ashman took a smart catch and Mymms' best player was back in the hatch.

And it should have been 31-3 as Herts skipper Andy Lewis, playing his first league game of the year for the home side, was dropped by Wilson at first slip.

Lewis had scored 168 for the county during the previous week and looked in decent form as he struck four boundaries as he added 37 for the third wicket with Ed Clements.

Drinks were taken after 16 overs with Mymms on 68-2 but three balls after the resumption, Lewis tamely surrendered his wicket when lofted Cunningham to cover where Fernando took a comfortable catch.

At the other end, Clements battled his way to 43 from 61 balls (8 fours) before Holland held on a top edge at cover to give the Jamaican spinner his second wicket.

Fernando had switched ends and was now bowling off-spin but he claimed a second wicket when he removed Neil Bamford, whose attempted charge saw his off-bail removed to leave Mymms 108-5

Carter and Kight added 24 runs up the lunch break, by which time Sawbridgeworth had bowled 36 overs. The latter was caught by Wilson at silly point in the third over after the resumption and from this point, Mymms looked to bat out time.

Captain Neil Black survived 73 balls to equal his best-ever league score for Mymms but Cunningham took all the remaining wickets.

Carter fell three short of his 50 attempted one sweep too many while McCarthy and Hassall gave Ashman his first stumpings of the season. The home side scored just 54 runs in 24 overs after lunch, managing just two boundaries against a well-disciplined Sawbo attack.

In reply, Sawbridgeworth made a slow start with nine runs coming from their first eight overs.

Rudkin took 28 balls to get off the mark but along with Wilson they both got into their stride, bringing up the 50 in the 19th over. They reached tea nine overs later with the score on 85 and only needed a further three overs to reach their second century opening stand of the season.

Wilson reached his half-century from 90 deliveries, with Rudkin needing 11 more to pass 50 for the third time this season. He took 14 off Chellew's 13th over before the stand finally ended at 132 when Carter took a comfortable catch at mid-off.

His partner went in the very next over, trapped in front by Wynne but Fernando
showed his intentions as he struck his first ball for four as he added 23 with Jackson, who fell cheaply for 6.

Fernando finished unbeaten on 29 from 28 balls but it was Holland who added the final flourish (16 no from 8 balls), as he jumped for joy after hitting the winning runs.

Sawbridgeworth play Knebworth Park on Saturday as they aim for a third successive league win which they have not achieved since they joined the Home Counties Premier League in 2004.
