Sawbridgeworth Cricket Club 2nd XI v North Enfield on Sat 12 Jun 2010 at 1:00
Sawbridgeworth Cricket Club Won by 27 runs

Match report Another great win for us, made even better as this was against top of the league. At times a victory looked a long way off, but in the end some excellent bowling by Billy and Dave just increased the pressure at the end and their batsmen were just not able to take it.

We started solidly with Dave and Deano seeing off the new ball, which was important as there was a bit in the wicket early along with good pace and bounce. Dave got out though when gully somehow caught a shot that was probably going for 6, this was quickly followed by Rudders getting a questionable LBW. Deano and Runcie then consolidated, but kept the scoreboard ticking getting us to 70 off 20 overs. But then we lost another couple of wickets when Deano was bowled and then Chis was unlucky to chop on. With 20 overs left Rhys got out with the score on 111 and at this point 200 looked a long way off. But a 70 run partnership between Runcie and Birchy in the next 15 overs really set us up for a good score. Although Birchy got out, some good lower order agricultural shots along with Runcie excellerating got us to a respectable 221. The only disappointment was that Runcie just failed to score his 100, with some controversy as the umpire ruled that he and Joe had not crossed off the penultimate ball when Joe was caught in the ring, leaving Runcie stranded at the non-strikers end for the last ball.

In reply North Enfield started solidly, again looking to see off the new ball. The second wicket fell in the 14th over with the score on 55. It was then though that they pushed on, with the number 4 deciding that the trees were too enticing to resist. They proceeded to put on 87 for the 3rd wicket at 5 an over, meaning that they only needed 80 to win off the last 16 overs with 8 wickets in hand. But then Billy started to pick up wickets, supported by Dave keeping it tight at the other end. With 10 to go they needed 60, but by then had lost 5 wickets. 5 overs later they still needed 40, but had lost another 2 more wickets. To their credit North Enfield kept going for it, but Billy and Dave were giving them nothing to slog and in the end the pressure told as the opener, who up to then hadn't really gone for the trees, tried to smash Billy in the penultimate over but only managed to pick out Runcie on the boundary. Leaving us to celebrate a great win!
