Botany Bay 2nd XI v Sawbridgeworth Cricket Club 3rd XI on Sat 19 Jun 2010 at 1:00
Match was Drawn

Match report Away to Botany Bay on a chilly and cloudy mid June day with light rain showers threatening. The outcome of the game was effectively sealed by the the toss of a coin, as we were inserted on a green hard BB wicket, which could have done with a cut.
Elkins went early on, leaving Heath & Stead to drop anchor & play themselves in. Heath showed glimpses of the old magic, with some fine strokeplay with the dour Stead playing the supporting role. With Heath's departure the tempo was raised with Stead working the ball around & Bowler attacking some erratic medium pace bowling, with a flurry of well timed boundaries.
With Bowler & Stead departing in quick succession, the momentum continued with Marshall,Moorley & Mann making useful middle order contributions with some excellent opportunistic running between the wickets. The innings finished on a respectable (but gettable) 241,with Larsen signing off with an entertaining cameo.

Any chance of B B chasing down the total was dealt a severe blow with early breakthroughs by Delaney & Larsen. This included an amazing one handed catch by Heath at slip. With three wickets down, B B were fighting a rearguard action, and never got close to the required run rate.We kept chipping away, but with B B never really showing any positive intentions to chase the total down, despite winning the toss & inviting us to bat,the game ended in a rather frustrating draw. The only material resistance came from the big hitting Banajee. But following his removal by the canny Gostling with a smart stumping by Mann off a wide, the game petred out.Larsen finished with 4 wickets, Gostling & Delaney a brace apiece meant, 18 well earned points, leaving us in 3rd position in the League. Another good effort-a winning draw, but team spirit is excellent & confidence is running high.Bring on next week, away at Northwood Town (which I think if you look at the map is somewhere near Glamorgan).
