Match report
A very disappointing draw, away at Langleybury, which felt more like a loss. We won the toss & inserted the opposition on a dry but slow paced & relatively green wicket, bearing in mind the lack of rain.We got off to a great start with Purnell taking an early wicket, but a patient partnership between the obdurate Buckoke & E.Pearce and a late florish from Usman meant we needed what appeared to be a relatively modest 183 to win the game, despite a 'tennis ball bounce' type wicket & slow outfield.
However, another relatively slow start from the experienced openers meant alot of pressure on the middle order.Unfortunately, this week it didn't fire as a tweaking of the batting order backfired, despite Harnack's gallant 32.With overs running out, & the pressure intensifying, some tight Langleybury bowling and the needless run out of the in form Marshall for nought, left us holding on for a disappointing draw,in probably our worst batting performance of the season.
Positives to take in to next weeks important promotion clash with Chipperfield Clarendon were the bowling performances of Messrs Purnell & Gostling and what should have been a match winning top score of 71 from Levey. He was supported well by Harnack, but a slow start and a tweaking of the batting order, along with a crucial dropped catch of Usman, meant we were left with a paltry 5 points. A frustrating missed opportunity, to put some daylight between us and the rest of the promotion pack, means we settle for 3rd place in the League this week, with everything to play for in the coming weeks.
