Sawbridgeworth Cricket Club 3rd XI v Northampton Exiles II on Sat 03 Jul 2010 at 1:00
Sawbridgeworth Cricket Club Won by 3 WKTS

Match report A quite remarkable victory at Leventhorpe continuing the III's unbeaten run, when everything was appearing not to go our way.
Won the toss & inserted NE II's on a belter of a wicket, in perfect batting conditions. With two NE batters scoring centuries, and the ball flying to all parts, the Sawbo bowlers took what has to be said as a bit of a hammering. With Jake English in Harlow A & E with a dislocated finger, all did not appear well at tea.

Hill finished up on 3 wickets, with Dale & Gostling one apiece, however, with good visibility, a gentle breeze, rock hard flat wicket & glass outfield, it really was a day for the batters. We fielded well in the circumstances, but 307 was still a big ask.

However, we always felt we would be in with a chance at a required run rate of six an over (off 51 overs), as long as we got off to a good start.

In reply, Levey fell early on bowled round his legs, leaving Harnack & Moorley to dig in, and lay the foundations against some disciplined bowling. We were falling behind the run rate, however, & at 67 for 2 off 19 overs, we looked well out of it.
The introduction of Bowler energised Harnack into some more attacking shots & with Bowler's departure, after a breezy 17, Marshall took the initiative with support from Harnack who reached a hard grafted 50.Marshall pushed on scoring an excellent 83, giving us an outside chance of an improbable victory.

The turning point came when Hill battered a typically belligerent 36, leaving NE in no doubt of our intent.

As the pressure intensified with victory in sight at a run a ball, the NE fielding became more & more ragged, & it was finally left to an intelligent knock from Poulter to see us home, with vital contributions from Inch & Dale, who hit a winning six with four balls to spare.

A brilliant victory amidst jubilant celebrations, on a day which at one point just didn't seem to be going our way.

At the season mid point now, & we remain well positioned in second place in the League, with a tricky away fixture to Kings Langley II, this Saturday.

The roller coaster ride continues!
