Northwood Town v Sawbridgeworth Cricket Club 2nd XI on Sat 13 Aug 2011 at 1:00
Sawbridgeworth Cricket Club Won by 2 runs

Match report You can't say it is dull playing in the 2's, this was our 4th win on the bounce of which 3 went to the last over.

We turned up to find a very wet track and unsurprisingly were asked to bat first. It was very tough going with them bowling very consistent line and length on a pitch that you would normally expect to see in April. We were soon 29 for 4 after 15 overs and in big trouble. Runci and Bugsy started the fightback, putting on 36 for the 5th wicket, which was a lot in the context of this game. Bugsy and then I got out, but Chuckle came in a played brilliantly, firstly supporting Runcie who scored an excellent 46 and then playing his shots ending up with 28. The rest of the lower order also contributed so we ended up with 132 which we thought was very competitive, which says a lot.

Having said that, their opener came out and batted as if it was a road and they were chasing 300. Anything remotely short he smashed to mid-wicket or too full went straight back over the bowlers head. We dropped him early which nearly proved costly, but the introduction of Billy and Dave started to restrict them and when Dave got the opener we were right back in it. To put it in context, they had 72 after 10 overs when he got out and he had 68. From then the squeeze came on and we kept taking wickets on what was still a very difficult track. At 83 for 6 we were well on top, but then 7, 8 and 9 started to bat a bit more positively and hit the odd boundary to start getting them nearer the target. But remarkably overs were starting to come into it with the rate inching up to 2.5, then 3 and then 4 an over. With 20 needed their 7 hit 2 consecutive boundaries off Billy and it looked like it was going to be their game. But next ball he tried to be too clever and hit one behind sqaure after we had covered his other shots and Billy bowled him round his legs. 2 balls later their 10 got out LBW sweeping and suddenly they needed 10 off the last 2 overs with only one wicket left. They then resorted to tip and run and managed to take 6 off Dave's penultimate over, but there was also a very difficult dropped catch and a boundary when Chowie dived to try and make the catch but it bounced in front and went past him. So they needed 4 off the last over, the first ball there was nearly a run out the second they scrambled 2 to leave 2 to win. Next ball though he tried the same shot but picked out Olly at deep mid who took a good catch to win us the game.

So another great win and we are marching up the league. There were 4 stand out performances, first Runcie scored a magnificent 46, Joe got us to a good total with some fine hitting and then took a good catch and stumping. Billy held his nerve and bowled really well at the death to pick up 4, but man of the match was Dave who supported Runcie with the bat and then ripped out their top and middle order (including bouncing one of them).
