Sawbridgeworth Cricket Club 3rd XI v Cockfosters 3rd XI on Sat 11 Jun 2011 at 1:00
Sawbridgeworth Cricket Club Won

Match report Well what a lovely day, playing at Town Fields with the sun out and winning, it doesn't get any better than that.

I won the toss and decided to put Cockfosters into bat on a track that looked good to bat on, but had a couple of wet patches due to water creeping under the covers.

Nick Dale opened the bowling and bowled beautifully down the hill jagging the ball around and having both openers in trouble, Nick ended with figures of 11 overs 3 for 53. I opened the other end and bowled 8 overs 1 for 28. I replaced Nick with James Wair and myself with Ben, again both bowled well James finished with 7 overs 1 for 36, Ben was then teamed with Matt Gostling and the two youngsters in tandem bowled brilliantly restricting Cockfosters from what at one point looked like a score of 250 to 270 to a score of 202 all out.

Ben finished with figures of 15.2 overs 2 for 62 , Matt finished with figures of 6 overs 2 for 17.

I also have to mention here that Ross Moorley, who kept wicket for the first time for us this year, did a really good job behind the stumps. Well done mate.

Opening the batting for us was Bren and Kev and again they got us off to a good start before Bren was a touch unfortunate to be given out LBW for 17 just when he looked like he was set for a big one. Bowles joined Kev and the two batted with determination and grit against some good Cockfosters bowling, the two guys took us from 33 for 1 to 124 for 2, when Bowles was bowled for a very good 34, unfortunately Kev also went the next over for again, another very important 46.

This brought together Ross and Rich, who again batted with patience and grit together and took the score from 128 for 3 to 174 for 4, this was the most crucial point of the innings, as another couple of quick wickets here and we could have been in trouble. Unfortunately Ross was caught by a magnificent one handed catch but had scored a very important 33.

Pasky joined Rich and the two guys pushed and nurdled the ball for some good quick singles, before Pasky was run out for 6 in a bit of a mix up.

It was now getting a bit squeaky bum time,, as next into bat was a 13 year old followed by a 14 year old !!, however, again the didn't let us down Ben got a couple of runs before being caught behind, Matt went in to bat with Rich, but unfortunately Rich was out for a brilliant 23, considering he had hurt his back while fielding and couldn't bend at all.

James Wair joined Matt, and the score was on 195 with 2 overs left, Matt got a couple of quick single and then James smashed a brilliant 4 to relive the growing pressure.

We reached our target with 1 over left.

This was a good win for us, with everybody being involved and chipping into the the team performance.

Great win on a great day, playing cricket at a great place.
