Waltham Cross Rosedale 2nd XI v Sawbridgeworth Cricket Club 3rd XI on Sat 02 Jul 2011 at 1:00
Sawbridgeworth Cricket Club Won

Match report On a beautifully warm and sunny day, we travelled to Waltham Cross for a crucial game as our opponents were only one place below us in the league table.

I won the toss and decided to insert the opposition on a track that looked worn.

James Wair and i opened the bowling, it wasn't the best start we have ever had as James went for 12 of his first over, however after that he bowled 6 overs for 8 runs, so a great comeback from him. I kept bowling from the other and and managed to pick up a wicket, then Gary replaced James and changed the game in our favour, the old boy bowled magnificently jagging the ball off the deck both ways, and also swinging it in the air, there were some balls he bowled that were unplayable.

Ben replaced me and bowled well without any luck at all, having 3 catches dropped off his bowling, he will bowl a lot worse in games and pick up wickets.

Gary was still firing from the other end but felt his calf muscle going so unfortunately i had to replace him, but what a spell of bowling he finished with figure of 16 overs 7 maidens 7 for 25. On came Matt at an awkward time to bowl as two batsman were set, but he did well enough in the circumstances.

A good performance in the field, however, it could have been better as at one point we had them 125 for 9 only for them to finish on 210 for 9.

We opened the batting with Kev and Rich against the old ball and two spinners, both got themselves in and looked comfortable against the bowling only for Kev to get a full toss chest high which he unfortunately top edged. Rich was then accompanied by Rees and both batted with composure and great skill and they took the score from 54 for 1 to 181 for 1 in no time at all. Rich was out just as he was looking set for his ton i think mainly due to exhaustion more than a good ball, but he finished oh a superb 94, that's the best i have seen Rich bat since he came back to play, it was just like the old Rich of 25 years ago. Rees was then joined by Chis who had been sitting with his pads on for 35 overs, i was really pleased that he got a bat and hit a very good 16 not out, at least it was a little net for him, Rees hit some majestic shots on his way to 57 but got bowled with us needing a couple to win, again Rees is a serious talent and some of the cover drives he played were top class.

Burs came in and hit his first ball for 4 and that was the game won.

A great performance by every one and one the team should feel proud of apart from a 10 over spell at the end of there innings, we did a very professional job on them. Well done everyone.
