Sawbridgeworth Cricket Club 3rd XI v London Colney 2nd XI on Sat 30 Jul 2011 at 1:00
Match was Drawn

Match report In perfect cricket conditions,we won the toss and elected to field.Gary opened with the new ball and bowled economically, beating the bat consistently, and was unlucky not to pick up more than one wicket. His return of 1 for 53 off 17 was even more impressive bearing in mind his recent 'groin' injury. We wish him a speedy recovery as the football season gets underway, making this his last game of the season. The pick of the bowling was Matt Gostling who bowled two really good spells taking 4 wkts for 43 off 12. Just a shame he could only bowl 12 overs, as I think that we would have gone through them at 130 for 7. Hibbs,Wair & Ricketts were unlucky to come up against Vanakard who was lucky to survive an early Lbw appeal, to then go on to smash the ball to all parts finishing on 100 no.We fielded relatively well bearing in mind we were chasing leather, and didn't drop any catches,so an improvement on last week. The highlight was a great instinctive snare from Hibbs which made a difficult catch look easy.
So a mammoth total of 279 was needed for victory, and a good start was required.

The batting order was tweaked with the in form Harnack opening up with Heath. He was unlucky to get a good 'nut' from Vanarkadi, who was certainly getting his money's worth. Moorley chipped in with 10, but a lack of foot movement was his downfall.
Heath & Bowler batted for 20 overs and put on 121, before Bowler fell on 49 to a lazy shot trying to get closer to the huge target.
Elkins played an important cameo innings pushing the score along with some big hits, before the brilliantly manufactured innings of Heath came to a close agonisingly one short of a hundred.Well batted was a great display on a track we all dream of batting on. Inch and Wair then had the difficult task of getting us over the line, with Gab finishing on 23 no and James on 4.
A valiant effort, but the oppo just got too many runs taking up their 53 overs (which they were entitled to as we won the toss) but a declaration at 50 overs would have made life easier.
Enjoyable nevertheless...everyone got a game but we just ran out of overs, but all credit to the LC Capt who kept the game open.
