Hertford v Sawbridgeworth Cricket Club 1st XI on Sat 09 Jun 2012 at 11:30
Sawbridgeworth Cricket Club Won 72 runs

Match report Rizwan Qureshi produced a brilliant all-round display to help Sawbridgeworth to a hard-fought 72 win victory over Hertford at Balls Park.

He followed up a brilliant 92 with his third successive five wicket haul as Michael Burrell's side recorded a second win on the bounce to move up to fourth in the table.

It was the second week in a row that Sawbo had won in so-called "extra time" as they claimed the last Hertford wicket in the 58th over with 15 minutes to spare, having bowled their minimum allocation of 50 by 6.25pm.

The home side had reached tea at 121-3 off 28 overs and the evening session looked set to be a close contest. But Hertford's lower order were unable to cope with the prodigious turn and bounce of Qureshi and the precocious talent of Waring.

Qureshi had gone wicketless in 10 overs before the tea break but finally broke through in his first over after the interval when he trapped Will Ray in front.
King and Cook eked out 19 runs in 41 balls before the latter holed out to mid-on before Waring picked up Cavener for a "golden" with Wilson snaring the slip catch.

By now the Hertford challenge was over as their lower order were finding it increasingly difficult against some high-quality bowling. King scratched around for 65 balls before offering a return catch to Qureshi with Ruskin looking out of sorts for 40 deliveries. When the former skipper and Mead were dismissed in the space of four balls, Sawbo had 35 minutes to take the last wicket which finally came when Brazill was bowled after playing no shot to another turning delivery.

It was a great comeback by the Sawbo bowlers, who had again started poorly as the Hertford openers raced to 65-0 in the 13th over before Crognale fell to a magnificent catch in the gully by Jackson.

Gale (58 balls, seven fours) looked in great form before becoming Burrell's second wicket and the in-form Ollie Ray also looked in good touch. He scored nine runs off Waring's first three balls before the 14-year-old got his revenge in his next over to set up an interesting last session.

Sawbridgeworth effectively took all 10 Hertford wickets for just 108 runs and earlier, they lost only one wicket before lunch after being put in to bat in cloudy and cool conditions.

Wilson scored 45 in a opening stand of 65 with Rudkin before being adjudged lbw but the key partnership was provided by Charlie Rudkin and Qureshi, who put on 141 for the second wicket, with the latter contributing a fantastic 92 in conditions that were never easy.

Rudkin batted all the way through the innings for an unbeaten 65 - his first ever "red inker" in league cricket - and although it was surprising the home side "only" scored 100 runs from their last 20 overs (having had 9 wickets in hand) their total proved more than enough as Sawbo contuinue to make progress in the right direction.
