Sawbridgeworth Cricket Club 3rd XI v Knebworth Park 4th XI on Sat 23 Jun 2012 at 1:00
Sawbridgeworth Cricket Club Won by 37 runs

Match report On a typically cold and blustery day at Town Fields I won the toss again but elected to bat first on this occassion despite the tail starting with me at number 5 in the order.

Ted obviously opened but I went with Gossy at the other end after his superb knock the last time he opened and prayed that it came off again. To a degree it did as they put on 50 for the first wicket and then between them went past overall team score from a couple of weeks ago against Northampton Exiles. Gossy was the first man out for 28 and Joe came and went for 5 to a good yorker. Rob Moorley (18) came to the crease and occupied the crease and batted with Ted at the other end and after a bit of pad-rash I finally got the chance to bat..... I didn't take it (missed a straight one off a 14-year old off spinner). Nick Wright and James Wair came and went but Gus Learmonth and Matt Gostling batted nicely and got us up to 158-8 after Gus was bowled off the last ball, a defendable total.

We took the old ball after tea is 2nd XI fashion and opened up with Gossy and Matt Billings. Glenn made the first of the early breakthroughs enticing their skipper to sky one to mid-off. Billy got the 2nd wicket bowling their Number 2 who exposed too much of his off stump.

Then one over from Glenn Gostling put us in strong command of the game. The first ball was hit through the leg side and the call was immediately 2 but Will Marklew had othe ideas as he threw it back in accuratly to get rid of Law-Mather. The very next ball was a beauty! The new bat who appealed for absolutely everything when we were batting and was told that he was a bit vocal before as soon as he arrived and then nicked one off Gossy to Reynolds at 1st slip who took a really sharp low catch diving down to his weaker left side and hanging on with one hand. The next ball was safely left but then Glenn struck again getting one through the batter and then the very next ball trapped Searle LBW. The hat-trick ball was safely played out but Billings struck again in the next over, removing Chapman to a good catch from Jimmy Wair to leave them 35-7. Then Evans came to the crease and blocked it for a while for I went a bit more attacking and they started to try to get the runs. Evans' resistance was broken by Jimmy Wair who drew him in and made him pop a simple catch to Ted at short cover shortly after we took the new ball. I also came on from Gossie's end and for the 2nd time in 2 games (that's right I did it last sunday too) got a wicket with a full toss as the resilient Morley held out to Learmonth. It was a battle between me and Jimmy Wair for the last wicket and he couldn't knock over one before the end of his spell but he was involved as he took the catch at 2nd slip off me to win the game for us and give us a deserved 30 points.

Credit to all of the boys especially the ancient and old guard in Ted and Gossy. We still haven't lost since the season opener which is a good sign and I fancy our chances against Letchworth next week as we have one of the best bowling attacks in the league at the moment. I'll see you at Town Fields next week!
