Sawbridgeworth Cricket Club 1st XI v Harlow Town on Sat 14 Apr 2012 at 1:30
Sawbridgeworth Cricket Club Won 114 runs

Match report Sawbridgeworth began their 2012 campaign on a winning note as they comfortably defeated Harlow Town by 114 runs at Town Fields.

After being put in to bat in this 45 overs a side contest, the home side were given the perfect start by Wilson and Rudkin, who put on 116 for the first wicket in just 17 overs. The pair reeled off a combined 22 boundaries in the partnership which reached three figures in just 95 balls.

A juggled catch at cover sent Rudkin on his way the delivery after he reached 50 which brought in new overseas player Rizwan Qureshi, newly arrived from Harold Wood. He marked his debut with a quickfire fifty as he added 94 in 67 balls with Wilson, who was caught at mid-off 11 short of a deserved century.

The former captain's departure sparked a mini-collapse from 210-2 to 211-4 in just 11 balls before Vibhor Yadav, also making his debut, led the recovery with a fifth wicket stand of 50 in 48 deliveries with Ellis.

To his credit, Coleman continued to pick up wickets for the visitors and his figures of 5-56 were outstanding in the circumstances but Sawbo's lower order pushed on as they scored their first ever 300+ total in a fixture in April.

Faced with a run-rate of 7.2 per over, the visitors reached 36-0 in the 13th over before Burrell got the breakthrough as Yates fell to a smart catch at 2nd slip by Yadav. This began a regular fall of wickets as Harlow Town collapsed to 106-7 with 15 overs left.

Morgan claimed his two wickets within his first eight balls while Qureshi impressed with his spin, conceding only four scoring shots in his nine overs, two of which went for six.

The fact the visitors passed the 200 mark was down to an whirlwind century by Coleman, who completed an outstanding day personally as he hit 10 fours and seven sixes from just 85 balls. He added 97 with Ashley Alderson before Howard picked up the final two wickets with Calver opting not to come out to face what would have been the final ball of the match.

It was a comfortable win for Michael Burrell's side, as the hosts claimed victory in their opening friendly of the season for the first time since 2005.
