Sawbridgeworth Cricket Club 1st XI Sunday v Chelmsford on Sun 13 May 2012 at 2:00
Sawbridgeworth Cricket Club Won 117 runs

Match report Sawbridgeworth made it four 1st XI wins out of four this season as they produced a superb team performance to demolish Chelmsford by 117 runs on Sunday.

A second wicket stand of 116 in 20 overs between Bird and Yadav provided the foundation for another impressive total from the home side.

As their figures below suggested, the duo played contrasting innings with Bird accelarating significantly after taking 55 balls to reach double figures. This was partly down to an impressive opening spell by Fergus, whose first five overs were all maidens. At the other end, Yadav looked very fluent as he reached his maiden 50 for Sawbo from 47 balls and it was surprising when he holed out to mid-off.

His departure left Sawbo 143-2 after 28.4 of their allotted 40 overs but the home side as Bird and Dan "The Rocket" Reynolds added 56 in 47 balls before the latter sacrificed himself with the score one shy of 200.

Reynolds' dismissal sparked a dramatic collapse, being the first of five wickets to fall for just 16 runs in 15 balls before Howard and Waring provided the final flourish.

Chelmsford never recovered after losing both openers within the first nine balls of their reply. Hayto and Redmond added 37 for the third wicket but this was their only partnership of any substance as wickets fell at regular intervals. All the Sawbo bowlers took a wicket in their first over, with the exception of Waring who needed nine balls to strike.

It was a day to remember for debutant Will Marklew, who joined a very exclusive club of players who took a wicket with his very first ball in first team cricket (The last instance was Olly Jackson v Chingford in April 2010). Meanwhile, Joe Rudkin became the first 'keeper since Simon Greenall in 2008 to take four catches in an innings.

Although Davis scored a quickfire 23, the final two wickets fell on "Nelson" with Burslem taking the final wicket with his only delivery of the innings via a magnificent catch by Charlie Rudkin.
