Dunstable 3rd XI v Sawbridgeworth Cricket Club 3rd XI on Sat 03 Aug 2013 at 1:00
Sawbridgeworth Cricket Club Lost By 49 runs

Match report A disappointing day at the office saw a convincing defeat for the threes away at Dunstable.

The day started with a loss of the toss and being welcomed to bowl by a Dunstable 3rd eleven who were in touchable distance with a good victory. In response, Sam Timms and James Wair opened the bowling and were tight, with Timms capturing the first wicket with a snare behind the stumps from the stand in keeper Spring, while the Captain and Bird were on a tour of Bedford. Up to a full quota and with the opposition one down, we fielded and bowled consistently. Matthew Billings again being the pick of the bowling with figures of 4 for 43 off 20. It was evident that that it was a turning wicket when we were in the field.

On to the chase, with the in form Spring and Rickett heading out after a stand of 127 the previous week, the openers put on 64 for the first wicket; Spring going for 13 while Rickett rocketed up to the high forties. The a rather typical collapse for Sawbridgeworth sprung after spring with Bird going for a duck; the first of 6 that fateful day. Waring showed intent, however succumbed to the bowling of Khan. Khan managed to pick up 7 wickets with his accurate and talented off spin, however our dealing of which left a lot to be desired.

With Mr Heath joining the very much "in" Rickett, the chase was very much on. The tipping point was the fall of Rickett, whom was magnificent in his 66. In came Captain Edwards and instantly saw Heath depart for a duck; sweeping a turning ball which straightened enough to be judged LBW. Wright came in and departed for 4 while Edwards still had hopes of victory in his mind; smashing Ahmed back over his head for 6. A selection of poor shots and good bowling saw our tail end falter and with Gale and Edwards at the end, victory was unachievable. Another wicket for Khan and Edwards was stranded.

Very much a game of two halves and many positives. Now on to Town Fields and continue in the field and learn from the mistakes with the bat should see us pick up 30 points.
