Hockerill 3rd XI v Sawbridgeworth Cricket Club Sawbo PANTHERS on Sat 04 May 2013 at 1.30
Sawbridgeworth Cricket Club Won by 3 wickets

Match report Well, what a fantastic start to the season!

With Sawbridgeworth winning the toss and putting the opposition in to bat a look at the score board after ten overs, showed the hosts to be 70 for nought and smashing the ball all round the ground.

However some good bowling (George Clayden & Mitch Youngs) and a couple of cracking catches from Matt Gosling and Josh Ramsay saw Sawbo gradually claw their way back in to the game, with the hosts eventually finishing on 225-8 off their allotted 45 overs.

Messrs Edwards and Morley got us off to a sound start scoring freely at one end and keeping the lively SARD (7.4.0-9) out at the other.

As we tried to push the strike rate up to the necessary going rate, frustration saw us lose both openers, plus Gus Marsh and at just 94-3 off 24 overs the pressure was on!

The majestic Kevin Youngs took on the challenge and started to find the gaps with an array of 'text book' shots, but quickly lost Mitch and the skipper and once again the future began to look bleak.

With the run rate required now up to 8 runs an over, cometh the hour, cometh the man, in the form of young Matt Gosling.

He proceeded to play a variety of good shots, in addition to taking some of the pressure off of Kevin, thereby providing us with the very slightest glimmer of hope.

The home team captain chose to bring back the quickie and whilst this seemed a sound move in principle, the greater pace on the ball saw the two Sawbo hero's start to smash the unfortunate SARD all around the ground.

He started to bowl shorter and shorter and subsequently went further and further, with Matt hitting a magnificent six through mid wicket, that nearly clipped the Easy Jet flight to Malaga!

Before we knew it the run rate required was down to four an over and the body language of the crestfallen home team players failed to be lifted by the arrival of some of their first team players, who tried to roar on their ailing colleagues.

With victory in sight a weary Kevin was bowled (74) leaving us 7 runs to win with 3.1 overs left.

In strode the young Ramsay and chose to completely ignore the captains advice of 'having a look' by smashing the first ball faced for 4 runs.

Matt scored a one of the first ball of the new over, leaving Josh to smash another 4 for victory, off his second ball faced!

In summary, a great team effort with all the younger members of the team making a good/significant contribution and setting us up to what hopefully will be an exciting and more importantly an enjoyable season in Division 6!
