Saffron Walden v Sawbridgeworth Cricket Club 1st XI Sunday on Sun 13 Apr 2014 at 1.30
Sawbridgeworth Cricket Club Won 4 runs

Match report
Sawbridgeworth made it two wins from two in 2014 as they triumphed by just four runs in a topsy turvy game against Saffron Walden.

They were looking down the barrel after the home side had reached 82-0 after 15 overs in pursuit of a modest looking target of 177 but when Wilson's slip catch broke the partnership it sparked a sensational collapse as Walden slumped to 102-6 in the space of 62 balls. New skipper McGarry was the chief destroyer, taking 5-8 in 38 deliveries while Billings recovered well to take the key wicket of Philp.

Aussie Andrew Winton brought Walden back in the game as he featured partnerships of 46 and 23 with Brown and Hancock respectively, in between Waring taking two wickets in two balls.

This took Walden needing eight to win with 19 balls left, but Hancock was snapped up by Kenny before Winton was bowled attempting a big shot that would have levelled the scores as the home side were dismissed with two of their allotted 40 overs remaining.

Earlier, Mann had played the outstanding innings of the day, as he crafted a very patient unbeaten 68, but his side would not have reached a competitive total had it not been for the excellent support he received from Harry Gale, as the pair added 37 for the last wicket in 31 balls.

The day’s other telling statistic was that Sawbridgeworth conceded 26 less extras than their hosts, who also conceded 16 runs in no balls and wides, which proved crucial in the final analysis.
