Sawbridgeworth Cricket Club 1st XI Sunday v Kensington on Sun 22 Jun 2014 at 2.00
Sawbridgeworth Cricket Club Won 61 runs

Match report Records flowed at Town Fields on Sunday as Sawbridgeworth defeated Kensington in another high scoring encounter.

After sharing 575 runs in 2013, the teams notched up 603 this time around with Charlie Rudkin leading the way with a magnificent performance as he recorded the second highest individual score in Sawbridgeworth CC history.

He rescued his side from 16-3 but the home side's revival would not have been possible had he not received excellent support from 15 year old Joe Leak, who scored 35 on his first XI debut in a fourth wicket stand of 128.

His departure left the home side on 144-4 after 25 overs before Tommy Burslem joined Rudkin as the pair broke the club's 5th wicket partnership record as they put on 180 in just 89 balls.

Rudkin reached his century off 76 balls, and scored his next 98 off just 34 deliveries and had three deliveries left of the innings to become only the second Sawbo player to reach a double century after Matt Birch scored 223 v Hutton in 1997.

Unfortunately he fell next ball to an excellent catch at mid off to David Behar off the bowling of Bernard van Vuuren, who had actually dropped Rudkin before he had scored which would had left Sawbo 14-3 in the 6th over.

The home side scored 131 runs from their last 10 overs with Eddy Barreto feeling the full brunt of this assault as he conceded 100 runs from just 6 overs! Rudkin's departure was met with stunned silence from the small crowd, who were willing him to reach 200, but he still he produced a magnificent effort, hitting 26 fours and 9 sixes from just 110 deliveries.

The innings won him the Johnnie Walker man of the match award from Kensington skipper Chris Ledger with Charlie Mann giving the visitors' award to Saihat Burua, who followed up an excellent spell of 4-29 with a quickfire 42 as he added 111 for the 7th wicket with Barreto (57). The pair had come together following the loss of 3 quick wickets saw the visitors collapse from 111-3 to 114-6.

Earlier, Steve Ashman had taken two wickets in two balls in a rare bowling spell with Sean Black producing another fiery opening spell. Dan Reynolds was the most economical Sawbo bowler, and had the honour of bowling the only maiden of the afternoon.
