Potters Bar v Sawbridgeworth Cricket Club 1st XI on Sat 30 May 2015 at 11.30
Sawbridgeworth Cricket Club Lost 6 wickets

Match report Sawbridgeworth's 100 per cent start to the season was ended by bogey side Potters Bar as slipped to a six wicket defeat at The Walk.

Their top order was dismantled in the opening 15 overs as they collapsed to 43-6 and the fact they recovered to finish two runs shy of 200 was mainly down to a superb innings by Joe Regan.

The 16 year old took full advantage of being dropped on 6 as he reached his maiden league half century for Sawbridgeworth, scoring a well compiled 82, showing great maturity as wickets fell around him.

At 107-8 the visitors looked unlikely to make 150 but Regan found a useful ally in George Kenny, as the pair put on 87 to easily surpass the club's 1st XI ninth wicket record partnership in league games. The previous best was 57 by Matthew Bonner and Stuart Levey at Chorleywood on 11 August 2001.

Both players fell in successive overs as Kenny fell two short of a maiden league 50 and he took two wickets as the start of Potters Bar's reply as the home side were reduced to 16-3.

It should have been 38-4 but Manuwelge was dropped at slip by McGarry when he was on 16. This proved to be the turning point of the game as he helped add 165 for the fourth wicket with Liam Gough, the son of former England star Darren.

It was Sawbridgeworth's 14th defeat against Potters Bar in 21 league meetings since 1996 (they have won only three) and their last league win at this ground was the following year in 1997.

Gough's 109 ball knock of 66 was chanceless before he was finally caught at mid-on by Brown. Potters Bar sealed their win with two towering sixes, the first took Manuwelge to his maiden league ton for the Bar before Zareef struck the winning runs.
