Sawbridgeworth Cricket Club 3rd XI v Bayford and Hertford 2nd XI on Sat 05 Sep 2015 at 12.30
Sawbridgeworth Cricket Club Won by 73 runs

Match report The final match of our topsy turvy year ended in a 7th win of the season at home to basement side Bayford & Hertford.

We were inserted on a damp but drying wicket, on a typically blustery, chilly and distinctly autumnal feeling Leventhorpe. Despite the midweek rain, the wicket played true and flat, and our batting finally 'clicked' with Levey (58)and Shah (62) playing the V accumulating at around 4 an over, against a pedestrian and weary looking B&H attack. Both departed after scoring good 50's laying the foundations for the Chisnall brothers to aggressively set about the B&H bowling. Craig scored an excellent fluent 71, before the entrance of Dean who literally took the B&H bowling apart with a stunning batting powerplay that culminated in a blistering Century off what must have been less than 50 balls, and the 3rd Team's largest ever League score (well in my memory anyway).

A total of 315 was a huge total to chase, albeit on a good track, short boundary and fast outfield.B&H initially put up a valiant effort keeping up with the run rate, but the game literally fizzled out once the opener had to leave early. Then it was a case of getting through the overs before hypothermia and acute boredom set in, as the B&H No7 helped himself to 49 runs, as we tried to get the game over and done with. Pick of the bowling was Chris Howard and James Gostling, both bowling economically, and Richard Harnack for a cameo (let's try and get them on the second bounce) over which complemented my over of full tosses very nicely.

Credit must be given to last week's unlikely victory at Dunstable inspired by Ted Levey's leadership, which meant that our destiny was very much in our own hands.

So the roller coaster season came to a close-a season in which we were either pretty good, or pretty bad, with not alot in between!

A few reflective beers finished off a very social season, so thanks to everyone for their support from playing to making the teas, and particularly the regulars who were there through thick and thin. A special mention also for Joe Leak, whose keeping has improved as the year has gone on, and was unlucky to miss out in the final game.

The bottom of the League was so tight that winning our last two games meant we narrowly 'avoided' relegation by finishing 6th.
