Match report
After such a good win last week, it was a different day today. Particularly when nobody got up this morning expecting the game to actually be on. But although it was a bit cold and the pitch was not Townfields, it was certainly playable.
We knew immediately that it was going to be a tough day when their opener hit 2 good boundaries in the first over. He went on to play beautifully and reached his a second consecutive century without giving a chance. At one point they were going at 9 an over, but the introduction of Romesh and Charlie started to pull back the run rate. The openers reached 131 off 18 overs when we made our first breakthrough and from there we performed really well. We started to take wickets regularly and restricted them to 229 off there 34, which was a big improvement as it looked like they would get 250+ at one point.
It was still going to be a tough chase though as we needed just under 7 an over. It proved to be just that as they bowled with aggression and some pace at times and had us 30 for 4 after 12 overs. But a solid Captain's innings steadied us and then when Romesh came in we started to see some fireworks as he and Phil started to hit boundaries. With the win out of sight they concentrated on making sure we picked up as many bonus points as we could. Reaching 120 meant we gained 6 points, compared to 5 for a rain off, but we fell agonisingly 4 runs short of picking up another point. But it was a great partnership, with Romesh particularly batting beautifully to finish on 67 not out.
